Our values rule how we run our business.
We have two sets of values, and they're of equal importance. Our first set of values — our primary values — govern how we approach everything we do at Smarter Sweat. They influence the content we create, the programs we develop, and everything that goes into our daily operations. Our second set of values — our personal values — are extensions of our primary values and reflect how we show up in our day-to-day lives.
Our Primary Values
1. Wellness and Fitness for All
We believe fitness and wellness should be among the most inclusive of industries. Wellness and fitness are human rights that everyone, regardless of race, origin, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and beliefs, should have access to. We work hard to include people from all walks of life in our product development processes, communications, and promotions. As Smarter Sweat expands and we start to consider adding more people to our team, we will move forward with inclusivity at top of mind.
2. Sustainability in Fitness and on Earth
We work tirelessly to ensure Smarter Sweat operates in the most sustainable ways. This includes our own operations and the operations of our partners: We partner only with companies that uphold sustainable manufacturing practices and give back to the Earth. To uphold this on our own end, Smarter Sweat engages in digital-only business operations wherever possible, including but not limited to: banking, accounting, internal and external communications, and promotions. We also, in our own offices, utilize environmentally friendly supplies, lighting, and technology.
Just as we emphasize sustainable living, we emphasize sustainable fitness. This means that fitness is not the end-all, be-all to a healthy lifestyle. We learned the hard way that fitness should not consume or be your life; rather, fitness should encompass a suite of habits and routines that set you up for lifelong success. Our products and programs reflect this.
3. Fairness in Fitness
Smarter Sweat believes that employees of all origins, classes, races, ages, genders, and sexual orientations must be treated fairly. As such, we only partner with companies who engage in fair employment practices, including but not limited to: Hiring with diversity as a priority, paying all employees fair wages, creating and maintaining safe and fair working environments, and offering employees adequate paid time off, sick leave, maternity/paternity leave, and professional development opportunities.
On our own end, we promise to engage in those practices listed above if and when Smarter Sweat expands beyond the two co-founders.

Our Personal Values
1. Faith-Fueled Fitness
Everyone in life needs a sense of purpose and a sense of guidance — it's human nature. That's why we believe in faith-fueled fitness, but we don't necessarily mean religion. Though Ashley believes in God, engages in prayer, and actively follows the Bible, Amanda does not — but that doesn't mean there is no faith. Despite differences in our religious views and practices, we realize that the important common denominator is a strong belief in something bigger than oneself.
We see fitness as a means to an end, rather than as an end in and of itself. For Amanda, for instance, fitness is a means to fulfill what she sees as her calling, which is to educate others — especially underprivileged or under-educated people — about the importance of health and fitness in creating a fruitful, successful life.
2. Lifestyle as Medicine
Amanda comes from a family of doctors and nurses and so has seen firsthand how amazing modern medicine can be. She's also seen, however, that the same practices can be more detrimental than helpful: For example, many people take prescription medications to manage chronic diseases yet still engage in the habits that led to their condition. The modern system is largely reactive. Smarter Sweat advocates for proactive — or more commonly, preventative — healthcare. This means using your lifestyle as medicine: Exercise, adequate sleep, hydration, good nutrition, and stress management are the keys to a truly healthy lifestyle and prevention of disease.
3. Earth-Happy Living
This is an extension of our primary value of practicing sustainability in fitness and on Earth. In our day-to-day lives, we strive to exemplify sustainability and conservation by reducing our own waste (especially the use of non-recyclable plastics); reducing energy usage and costs; shopping secondhand or from sustainable brands; recycling and upcycling; purchasing food mindfully; and educating others on sustainable habits.
4. Endless Adventure
We are happiest when we spend ample time outdoors, whether that means a daily walk in our own neighborhood or tackling the highest summit in our region. Because we've realized the incredible impact that outdoor adventures have on our fitness, mental health, sense of purpose, and overall wellness, we make an effort to include adventure and nature in our everyday lives — even when we're so busy that it means a simple 15-minute yoga flow outside instead of inside.
