Ashley Pfantz is a cofounder of Smarter Sweat and the owner & coach of pFANCY Fitness LLC. She thrives most when she’s taking risks, surrounded by solid community, being consistent and disciplined, and experiencing new, fun, adventurous things.
She graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University in 2015 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Kinesiology: Fitness & Human Performance.
Ashley is a professional health and fitness coach, NFPT (professional trainer), and has interned and learned from top coaches in the industry including Marcus Filly, James Fitzgerald, and Luka Hocevar. She is currently finishing up her OPEX CCP Level 1 and Precision Nutrition Level 1 certifications.
She grew up a competitive gymnast, multi-sport athlete, and a Division 1 Collegiate Pole Vaulter & Cross Country runner. Sport and fitness were kind of her everything growing up —so much so that she didn’t prioritize other aspects of life.
She has coached gymnastics, taught group fitness classes, and personal trained since 2014.Since grade school, she has struggled with overtraining and the demons thereof, including constant injuries and other health issues. After years of not listening to her body and being a “die hard” competitive athlete (and having a shoulder and hip surgery by the age of 23…) she realized she could not continue down that path ANY longer. Or else, as her “friends” told her in high school… she’d probably be in a wheelchair by age 30.
With the fear of her future in mind, she began studying deeper into all aspects of health and fitness: rest, recovery, mobility, nourishment, periodization, and other basic lifestyle factors that play such a huge role in health and longevity.
For years she struggled with rooting her identity in what she was able to do with sport and fitness — today she knows her self worth is not dictated by what she accomplishes or how “fit” she becomes. Fitness is now just a tool for living her larger life and reaching her higher purpose.
Favorites Q&A with Ashley
Favorite travel destination? Most any place outside with sunshine and good company. I love spontaneous road trips and sleeping under the stars. Zion National Park is probably my favorite so far.
Favorite Food? Berries and peanut butter, but also can't live without oven-roasted Japanese sweetpotatoes.
Favorite outdoor activity? Can not choose just one. Picnics in the park, hiking, golfing, playing tennis… all the things.
Favorite workout movement? I'm a sucker for a good sweat — so all aerobic circuits and body weight strength. As far as movements, I'm always down for deadlifts, hip thrusts, flips, handstands, and anything hanging from a bar.
